What Local SEO Actually Means

Local SEO is not magic. It's not a monthly retainer where someone does mysterious things to your website and sends you a report full of graphs. For most tradespeople, it comes down to a few straightforward things done properly.

When someone searches "boiler service in Lewes" or "roofer near me", Google tries to show the most relevant, trustworthy local businesses. It looks at your website, your Google Business Profile, and how many people have reviewed you. The sites that show up have usually done three things right: their website has the right content, it's technically sound, and they've accumulated some reviews.

I take care of the website side. The reviews part is down to you — but it's not hard.

What I Build Into Every DCS Website

Service Pages

A single page that says "we do plumbing" doesn't give Google much to work with. I create a dedicated page for each of your main services — boiler installation, central heating repairs, emergency call-outs — each written clearly, targeting the search terms your customers actually use. More specific pages mean more chances to appear in search results.

Location Pages

If you serve five towns, you need five location pages. Each one is specific to that area — mentioning the town, nearby areas, and the services you offer there. This is how you show up when someone in Bexhill searches for a tradesperson, not just someone in your home town.

Schema Markup

I add structured data to your site that tells Google you're a real local business — your name, address, phone number, the services you offer, and your coverage area. Google uses this to populate local search panels and sometimes to show star ratings directly in search results.

Google Business Profile Guidance

Your Google Business Profile (the listing that appears on Google Maps and in the local results panel) is separate from your website, but the two work together. I walk you through setting it up correctly or improving it if you already have one — the right categories, service areas, photos, and how to get that first batch of reviews.

Sitemap Submission

Once your site is live, I submit a sitemap to Google Search Console so Google finds and indexes your pages quickly. I also connect your site to Search Console so I can spot any crawl issues early.

The Reality for Tradespeople

You don't need to understand SEO. You don't need to know what schema markup is or how Google's algorithm works. What you need is a website built by people who do understand it, so you're not starting from behind.

A lot of tradespeople have websites that were built years ago without any thought for local search. They load slowly, have no location pages, and Google ignores them. If that sounds like your current website, you're losing jobs to competitors every single day — not because they're better at their trade, but because their website is better built.

Every DCS website is built with local SEO as a foundation, not an afterthought. There's no extra cost, no monthly SEO package to upsell you on. It's just how I build sites.

I Work With Tradespeople Across the UK

Whether you cover one postcode or operate across several counties, I set up your location pages and SEO structure to match your actual service area. I've helped tradespeople in rural market towns and busy city suburbs — the same principles apply everywhere.

The site looks exactly how I wanted. Professional, clear, and it shows up on Google when people search for scaffolding near me.

Common questions

What is local SEO?

Local SEO means optimising your website so it appears in Google search results when people nearby search for a service like yours. For example, someone searching 'electrician in Brighton' — Google shows local businesses it trusts are relevant and close. Local SEO is the work that gets your business into those results.

How long until I rank?

It varies. For less competitive searches in smaller towns, you might see results within a few weeks. For competitive searches in larger cities, it can take several months. There are no shortcuts. What I can do is make sure your site is built correctly from day one, so you're not starting from scratch later.

Do I need to do anything myself?

Very little. I handle everything on the website side. The one thing that genuinely helps is gathering Google reviews from customers — Google takes review volume and quality into account for local rankings. I'll give you a simple link to send to customers. That's it.

What are location pages?

Location pages are dedicated pages on your site for each area you serve — for example, a page targeting 'plumber in Eastbourne' and another for 'plumber in Hastings'. Each page talks about your service in that specific area. Google uses these pages to understand your coverage, which helps you show up in more local searches.

What is schema markup?

Schema markup is structured data added to your website's code — invisible to visitors but readable by Google. It tells Google exactly what your business is, what services you offer, and where you operate. This increases the chances of your site appearing with rich information in search results, like star ratings or opening hours.

Can you guarantee I'll rank on Google?

No — and you should be sceptical of anyone who says they can. Google's algorithm considers hundreds of factors. What I guarantee is that your site is built to best practices: fast loading, properly structured, with the right pages and markup in place. That gives you the best possible foundation to rank well over time.
